Kashmiri Pandit wedding card, in papier-mâché

By Nimantran · Updated 26 October 2026

A Kashmiri Pandit wedding card online, made like a set of nested papier-mâché boxes on a pashmina in a houseboat room, with snow falling on the Dal outside. Guests lift each lacquered lid to read a chapter, from Livun to the Lagan and Satraat, down to a tiny gold box that holds two rings and the date. You send it as one link.

A Kashmiri Pandit wedding card in nested boxes

The Chinar Sandook design arrives as a parcel wrapped in a sozni pashmina, with a paper tag that says "For you, with love" and your names. One tap, and the four corners of the shawl fold open on a lacquered papier-mâché box on a walnut table. Through the window: Dal Lake at a winter dusk, snow on the Zabarwan range, a shikara and a chinar branch.

Guests drag the lid up or tap the box. The chapter is painted on the underside of the lid, and a smaller, more ornate box waits inside. Tap it and the view dives in. Every lifted lid goes onto a walnut tray, so guests can tap one to read that chapter again. Chinar leaves drift through the room, and a sent RSVP throws a shower of leaves and petals, like the Posh Puza.

  • Nine boxes: Khush Aamdeed, the couple and their families, the rites before the Lagan, the Lagan, the rites after it, photos and a film, notes for guests, your reply, and the ring box.
  • A live countdown to the Lagan muhurat.
  • Directions and add to calendar for each rite, with its dress code in colour swatches.
  • RSVP on WhatsApp to the number you choose.
  • No music: only the sounds of the lids, the paper and a soft chime.

The Kashmiri Pandit wedding rites, in order

The sample is Sharika Kaul of Rainawari and Arnav Razdan of Jawahar Nagar, married in Srinagar in February snow. Their boxes hold these:

  1. Livun (लिवुन): the house is cleaned and its floors and walls washed with fresh clay, while the aunts sing vanvun.
  2. Devgon (दिवगोन): the havan that begins the wedding rites, and the bride’s dejhoor tied on with the atahoor thread.
  3. Mehndiraat (मेंज़िरात): henna night, with rouf and vanvun around the kangris.
  4. Lagan & Posh Puza: the baraat, the seven steps around the fire, then a shawl held over the couple while every guest showers them with flowers, as Shiv and Parvati.
  5. Satraat (सतरात): the couple’s first visit back to the bride’s home, and an afternoon on the Dal in shikaras.

The notes for guests in the sample cover houseboats, snow on the roads, kangris and pherans at every venue, and a Pandit wazwan with a vegetarian spread.

Questions

Is the Kashmiri Pandit wedding card in Kashmiri?

Each rite’s Kashmiri name is written beside it in Devanagari, like लिवुन, दिवगोन and मेंज़िरात. The rest of the text is in English and Hindi, or up to three of ten Indian languages, and guests switch with one tap. A full page in Kashmiri is not one of those languages.

Can we add Kashmiri rites like Kasamdry or Krool Khanun?

Yes. Rename, remove or add any rite. Each gets its date, time, venue, Kashmiri name, a dress code with colour swatches, a note for guests, directions and an add-to-calendar button.

How much does the Kashmiri Pandit wedding card cost?

It is made to order by our studio, so the price depends on your wedding. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates for a quote.

Our wedding is in Jammu or Delhi, not Srinagar. Does it still fit?

Yes. The houseboat window and the papier-mâché stay, and every venue, city and note is your own. Guests get directions to each venue from the card.
