A Kerala wedding card you walk through
The Nalukettu design opens in the lane outside the tharavad: a laterite wall, a tiled gatehouse with a carved gable, two lit nilavilakku and studded wooden doors. The guest taps "Open the padippura", the doors swing in, and the view moves through the gate into a model of the whole house with its walls cut away: terracotta roofs, lime-white walls, red-oxide floors, a courtyard with rain falling round the tulsi thara, a granary, a well and coconut palms, with small figures in kasavu and mundu in every room.
- Each room is a page. Guests drag to look around, pinch to zoom, and tap a room: the view flies in, its roof lifts off, and the rest of the house falls into shadow. A small map in the corner shows where they are.
- Day to dusk. The deeper they go, the more the light turns to sunset and lamplight.
- Maps and calendar for each ceremony.
- A live countdown to the subhamuhurtham, in the courtyard.
- Photos and a film: the first four photos also hang framed on the wall of the south hall.
- RSVP on WhatsApp to the number you choose.
The rooms and the ceremonies, in order
The sample is a Kerala Hindu wedding: Meenakshi Menon of Mundakkal Tharavad, Thrissur, and Gautham Krishnan Nair of Poonkunnam, with the thalikettu at Guruvayur. The rooms follow the walk through the house:
- Padippura (gatehouse): Swagatham, the Vishnu mangalam shloka, the invitation, the names and dates.
- Poomukham (front veranda): the bride and groom, with their parents and elders.
- Vadakkini (north wing): before the thali, with the Nischayam, Mailanchi & Haldi and the Ayaniyoonu.
- Nadumuttam (courtyard): the Thalikettu, with the kanyadanam, the thali, the pudavakoda and three rounds of the nilavilakku.
- Adukkala (kitchen): after the thali, the Kalyana Sadhya and the Reception.
- Thekkini (south hall): photos. Pathayappura (granary): stay and travel for guests.
- Kizhakkini (east wing): the RSVP and Nanni.
Rename, remove or add ceremonies, to follow your own family's order of rites.
