Sindhi wedding card that guests play

By Nimantran · Updated 26 October 2026

A Sindhi wedding card that guests play on the phone: a hand-painted cloth game of snakes and ladders with an ajrak border. They roll a brass die, and the bride and groom hop from Kachchi Misri and Saanth to the Lavan, one rasam per square, to Mangal shehnai. You send it as one link.

A Sindhi wedding card you play

The Moksha Patam design is the old Indian board game behind snakes and ladders, painted on cloth with an ajrak border in indigo and madder red. It arrives folded in four and tied with a red-and-gold thread. The guest unties it and the board opens on a low wooden table.

Two wooden pawns stand on square 1: the groom in a saffron safa and the bride in a rani-pink chunri. The guest taps or flicks the brass die, and the pawns hop to the next chapter, sometimes up a ladder hung with marigolds, sometimes sliding down a painted snake. The chapter's card rises off the square. On the last square the two pawns meet, a garland pops up, and the pheras begin.

  • Music: Mangal shehnai in Raag Desh, with game sounds: a clack on each roll, a whoosh on a snake and a dhol when the couple meet.
  • The welcome opens with the old cheer आयो लाल, सभई चओ झूलेलाल and its meaning.
  • Every ceremony on its own square, with what to wear and colour swatches, directions and add to calendar.
  • A live countdown to the Lavan, photos and a film, notes for guests, and RSVP on WhatsApp.

The Sindhi wedding rasams, square by square

The sample is Tanvi Mirchandani and Kabir Lalwani of Ulhasnagar. Their board has these squares:

  1. Kachchi Misri: the first word, sealed with a coconut and a box of misri.
  2. Pakki Misri: the formal engagement, with a puja to Jhulelal and seven married women blessing the bride.
  3. Dev Bithana: the family deity is seated at home, and the women grind the first wheat on a chakki.
  4. Saanth: oil on the couple's heads, the groom breaks a clay diya, and his cousins tear his old kurta.
  5. Mehendi & Lada: henna and a night of teasing Sindhi wedding songs with dholak.
  6. Baraat & Lavan: the Hathialo ties their hands, then the pheras round the fire. This is the last square.
  7. Datar, after the board: the bride and groom pass salt from hand to hand three times in her new home.

Questions

Is the Sindhi wedding card in Sindhi?

It can be. Sindhi in Devanagari is one of the ten languages the card is written in; you choose up to three, like Sindhi, Hindi and English, and guests switch with one tap. In English, each rasam also shows its Sindhi name, like सांथ or लावां.

Do guests have to win the game to read the card?

No. Every roll takes the couple to the next square, so nobody gets stuck. A "Jump to" list opens any chapter straight away, and the arrows on each card move to the next one.

Can we add Dev Bithana, Saanth and Datar as separate events?

Yes. Each ceremony gets its own square and card with date, time, venue, what to wear, a note, directions and an add-to-calendar button. The board grows rows when you have more.

How much does the Sindhi wedding card cost?

It is made to order by our studio, so the price depends on your wedding. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates for a quote.
