A pichwai wedding card that unrolls
The Pichwai Kamal design starts in the dark with temple bells and ghee lamps. The guest taps or tugs the tassel: the bells ring, lotus petals burst, and the first panel of indigo cloth comes down from the rod. Each chapter is its own layer of cloth. Pull the tassel or swipe down and the next one unrolls over the last; swipe up or turn the brass knob on the bottom rod to roll it back. Numbered loops on the rod jump straight to any panel.
- The art: details from 18th and 19th century Nathdwara pichwais in The Met's open-access collection, with gold flower dots, red lehariya borders and hand-drawn lotuses, cows, peacocks and chhatris.
- Music: an original haveli sangeet piece in Raag Bhupali, with bansuri, tanpura, pakhawaj in Chautaal, manjira and temple bells.
- Maps and calendar for each ceremony.
- Countdown to the shubh lagna, in lotus-petal medallions.
- Photos and a film in jharokha frames, with a warm gold grade.
- RSVP on WhatsApp to the number you choose.
The panels and the ceremonies, in order
The sample is a Pushtimarg Vaishnav wedding: Radhika Kabra of Nathdwara and Devansh Mundra of Udaipur. The panels are Jai Shri Krishna (the shloka, the names and dates), The couple (with their parents and elders), Manorath (the ceremonies), The lagna (the phera time), Jhanki (photos), Padharo sa (stay, travel, food and your story), Will you come? (RSVP) and Aarti, where the guest taps a diya to offer aarti while petals fall. In the Manorath panel each ceremony is a scene:
- Ganesh Sthapana: the morning puja and the first mauli.
- Pithi Dastoor: haldi, besan and chandan, with banna-banni geet.
- Mehndi & Rasiya Sandhya: henna while the women sing Braj rasiya.
- Mayra (Bhaat): the bride's mamaji arrive with the chunari.
- Nikasi & Toran: the groom rides out with nagada and touches the toran.
- Phera: kanyadaan, granthi-bandhan and the seven phera at the shubh lagna.
- Reception & Aarti: an evening by Fateh Sagar in Udaipur.
Rename, remove or add any of them. Each can carry a dress code with colour swatches, like "Pila: yellow lehariya" or "Achkan, safa & lehariya".
